Welcome to Class 6 - Miss Malik

Class 6

I hope you all had a fabulous Summer.

This Autumn term, Year 6 will be focusing on a range of stories for their English lessons. We will be reading the story the Star of Fear, Star of Hope by Jo Hoestlandt and Skellig by David Almond. After reading each story or text, the children will complete character descriptions, setting descriptions, writing their own scenes, creating their own diary entry, newspaper report and to write their own story.  For History and Geography and we will be learning about the Ancient Mayans and we will investigate on why certain artefacts were used and why changes took place in Mexico and Central America. For Art lessons, Year 6 will be learning about 3D drawing and architecture. We will be focusing on Gaudi art work and building designs in Barcelona. Children will develop on their sketching skills and then will use charcoal to get different styles of effects.

In Maths, the children will be looking at place value this term and they will also solve challenging word problems. They will regularly practice the 4 operations (+, -, x, /) to build their confidence. Children will also be focusing on arithmetic’s once a week to consolidate their understanding. We will also look at recalling all of the time tables; however it will be very useful if the children also practice at home and play Timetable Rockstars.

P.E lessons will take place on a Monday and Friday afternoon, therefore all children need to make sure that they bring in the correct P.E kit. In Music, the children will be creating their own Graphic Score linked to the Planets and they will also compose and record their own music. In R.E the children will be learning about Christianity and Sikhism and comparing similarities and differences. Children are expected to read at home at least three times a week out loud to an adult and it should be recorded in their planners.

Thank you,

Miss Malik
