Welcome to Class 6 - Miss Reynolds

PE Kits: PE will be on a Tuesday and Friday.  PE kits will be send  home to be washed at half term.  Kits and pumps should be named.

Reading: Year 6 children are expected to read independently every night and they are able to sign their own planners.  It is helpful if you can initial to confirm that the reading is actually taking place.  You can also log any concerns that you may have. It would be advisable if you could listen in your child read aloud once per week to help discuss meanings of words and help with fluency.

Spelling: In Year 6, there will be a large focus on learning the Key Year 5/6 words. The children will be expected to know how to spell them and use them as frequently as possible in their independent writing. The key words that the children are expected to know are attached at the bottom of the page along with those needed for Year 3/4.  Children are tested weekly on a Tuesday.

English : In class we will be reading 'The Princesses Blankets' and comparing the authors writing to the text 'The Tear Thief'. We will also be looking at the picture book 'The Varmints'  and writing a variety of text types around this. The children will also be completing work for their leavers book.

Maths: In Maths we will be revising all objectives and focusing on applying our skills into reasoning questions up until SATs. After SATs, the children will complete a project based around running their own theme park calculating the costs of running, profits etc . The children will also be planning their own enterprise week which will involve looking at costs and profits.

Foundation: Science for the term is focusing on Electricity. The children will be studying the history of electricity as well as making a variety of working circuits..

In R.E. we will be studying Sikhism and Christianity.

In Art we will be using various techniques to create our own piece of artwork to remember our time at Thelwall Community Junior School as well as finishing of our landing crafts and tanks in D.T.
