Welcome to Class 6 - Miss Malik

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas.

This term, Year 6 will be focusing on a range of stories for their English lessons. We will be reading the story the Queen of Falls by Chris Van Allsburg and the Water Tower by Gray Crew. After reading each story or text, the children will write their own setting descriptions, scenes, diary entries, newspaper reports and they will write their own story.

In Geography we will be learning about the North America and making links to the Queen of Falls and we will be looking at Niagara Falls in more detail. For Art lessons, Year 6 will be working on their PAN project which is linked to ‘Same but Different’ therefore each class will focus on a different artist and use a range of materials to create their work.

In Maths, the children will be looking at fractions, decimals and percentages. They will also be focusing on measurements and they will be solving challenging word problems. They will regularly practice the 4 operations (+, -, x, /) to build their confidence in arithmetic’s. We will also look at recalling all of the time tables; however, it will be very useful if the children also practice at home and play Timetable Rockstars.

P.E lessons will take place on a Monday and Thursday morning, therefore all children need to make sure that they bring in the correct P.E kit. In Music, the children will be exploring Jazz music and learning about famous musicians and composers. In R.E the children will be learning about Christianity and the Old Testament. They will learn about the journey of life. Children are expected to read at home at least three times a week out loud to an adult and it should be recorded in their planners.

Thank you,

Miss Malik
