Welcome to Class 3/4 - Mrs Hallsworth

Welcome back to Class 3 / 4

PE Kits: We will only have 1 PE lesson this term and it will be on a Tuesday. All children will swim on a Thursday afternoon this term.  For our PE lessons we will be in the hall for the first half term and the children require black pumps. PE kits will be sent home to be washed at half term.  Kits and shoes should be named. After half term we will endeavour to have our PE lessons outside weather depending and the children will then require trainers.

Reading: Children should be listened to read out loud at least 3 times a week and this should be noted in the planner. Please work on asking the children questions about what they have read and how the characters may be feeling and authors intent. Children should be reading school books from the correct coloured band but may also wish to read a book of interest from home. Books are also set on Bug Club. Please find log in details in your child’s planner.

Homework: Homework is SPAG and will be set on a Friday and is due the following Friday. Focus on times tables this term is 3,4 and 8 x tables for Year 3’s and all other tables for Year 4 children (up to 12x12). All children in Year 3 and 4 will be given an additional homework activity linked to our topic of UK Rivers and Coasts. Please look for this information being sent home.

Spelling: Children will be working on spelling patterns as well as focusing on the Year 3 and 4 Spelling list. Please see the English page of the website for this information.

English: This term in English we are continuing our poetry work looking at reciting short poems for performance. We will then look at the second of our long texts this year ‘The Wind in the Willows’.  The children will write for different audiences and purposes including newspaper reports, narrative, diary entries, information texts and character and setting description.

Maths: The children will be following their curriculum year workbook for Singapore Maths. Year 3 will focus on length, mass, volume and fractions. The children in Year 4 will focus on graphs, fractions and time. We will also focus on rapid recall and fluency of mental maths.

Foundation: In Science we will be focusing on States of Matter. The children will investigate freezing, melting and how this effects liquids.

Geography work this term will focus on The UK Rivers and Coasts. This will include the children visiting Styal to look at the water cycle and how it supported industrial Britain as well as investigating the river Bollin at Quarry Bank.

In RE our class focus is Islam and the journey through life within the religion for the first half term and then the Easter Story.

In Art we are focusing on our display work as part of the PAN exhibition which takes place this term.

For Music, the Year 3 children will continue gospel singing this term and the children in Year 4 will perfect their skills at playing the recorder and using the GarageBand APP.

In ICT the children will focus on programming and internet safety.  

In French we will look at family members, special times of year (Epiphany and Easter) animals and body parts.
