Welcome to Class 3/4 - Mrs Hallsworth

This term in English we are first studying The Lion, the witch and the Wardrobe.  We will be looking at the language the writer uses and how exciting the setting and the characters are.  We will be writing different genres including letters, diary entries , narrative and  non-chronological reports.  We will also look at some poetry and books associated with our topic of Stone Age before moving on to reading Wind in the willows.  We will link in all relative grammar and punctuation and the children will be focusing on the Year 3 and Year 4 spelling list.

In Maths the children will be following their curriculum year workbook for Singapore Maths.  Year 3 will focus on measures including length, mass and weight.  We will then spend a lot of time looking at fractions.  The children in Year 4 will focus on graphs, fractions and time including problem solving.

In Science we will be learning about rocks.  This will also link to our History topic of Stone Age.        In RE our class focus is Islam and the scriptures for the first half term then the Easter story.  We will all be creating some artwork for the exhibition at the Pyramid linked to the title 'Warrington'.  The Year 3 children will continue gospel singing this term and the children in Year 4 will continue eo learn how to play the recorder and use the GarageBand APP.  You can look forward to some performances later in the year.  In computing the children will focus on programming using the DB Primary Scheme.  In French we will look at animals, days, months and the classroom environment.  In PE we will focus on gymnastics and outdoor adventurous activities.

Homework is SPAG and will be set on a Wednesday and is due the following Wednesday.  Children should be listened to read out loud at least 3 times a week and this should be noted in the planner.  Focus on times tables this term is consolidating 2,5 and 10 and moving on to 3,4 and 8 x tables.
